The Israel Guys: Building Connections in the West Bank

2 minutes ago 0

A new visitors center opened in Har Bracha in the West Bank town of Samaria last month. This center was established by The Israel Guys, a Christian Zionist organization. Since its founding, the group has brought over 5,000 volunteers from 35 countries to aid in developing the Land of Israel.

Mission of The Israel Guys

Joshua Waller, the CEO of The Israel Guys, said their main objective is to bring people to witness firsthand the flourishing biblical heartland. He believes this counters media narratives that depict the area as embroiled in conflict.

“We live here and see the real state of affairs,” Waller explained. “Our goal is to expand awareness by inviting thousands from overseas to see for themselves.”

Volunteer Involvement

The organization’s volunteer programs include various hands-on experiences:

  • The Heartland Experience: A 10-day tour combining sightseeing, volunteer work, and interactions with locals.
  • The Grape Harvest Trip: A two-week program aiding farmers during the late summer and early fall harvest.
  • The Men’s Pruning Trip: A two-week spring program focusing on vineyard maintenance.
  • Zion Ops: A four-week program for young adults aged 18-30.
  • Day Visits: Two-hour visits to the Har Bracha center.

Beginnings and Evolution

The Israel Guys trace their origins to 2004 when Tommy Waller first traveled to Israel. He met Nir Lavi, founder of Har Bracha Winery, who shared the vision of reviving vineyards as prophesied in the Bible.

In 2007, Waller moved to Har Bracha with his family and established HaYovel, a U.S. nonprofit providing Christian volunteers opportunities to work alongside Israeli farmers. The organization evolved into The Israel Guys, with increased advocacy efforts.

International Outreach and Impact

The Israel Guys have developed approximately 120 farms in Judea and Samaria. Volunteers engage in various tasks, including planting trees, harvesting crops, and building infrastructure.

In reaction to the October 7, 2023, attacks by Hamas, The Israel Guys launched Operation Ittai, raising $3.85 million for tactical supplies to bolster local defenses.

Christian Presence in Israel

Joshua Waller addressed claims that Christians are unwelcome in Israel, countering with factual accounts of Christians’ lives in the region. He emphasized that Israel remains the safest place for Christians in the Middle East, with a growing Christian population.

Volunteers come from diverse Christian backgrounds and participate in programs supporting local farmers. The new center will host lectures on Israel and Zionism, and will serve communal meals.

“Israel partners for peace, and following biblical principles can lead to a promising future,” Waller said, highlighting the ongoing support for Israel.
