The Lingering Impact of September 11, 25 Years On

2 hours ago 0

Reflecting on the events of September 11, 25 years later, the profound impact remains apparent. The significant loss is still felt, a quarter-century after the tragedy unfolded.

A firefighter is captured gazing out of an office building, adjacent to what once were the iconic towers of the World Trade Center. In the aftermath, as the towers lay in ruins, the scene became etched in history. Photographer Yoni Brook documented these moments for The Washington Post, capturing the somber reality that followed the collapse.

Those who worked on the site initially referred to the debris as “the pile,” but with time, the term evolved to “the pit.” This shift occurred as the arduous process of clearing the site advanced. For nearly a year, I orchestrated administrative duties from a nearby trailer for one of the construction companies involved in the clearing efforts. This close proximity offered a day-to-day view of the grueling process of recovery and rebuilding.
