Tragic Shooting at Seattle Center: Two Dead and Multiple Injured

Two suspects are now in custody following a mass shooting at the Seattle Center, which resulted in two fatalities and several injuries. This incident occurred during the Bite of Seattle food festival on Sunday evening.

Mayor Katie Wilson denounced the event as an “act of horrific violence.” She expressed her grief by stating, “Impacted families are living through the worst moment of their lives, and an entire community is grappling with how a cultural and joyful gathering turned into a tragedy.” The mayor emphasized that people should not fear gun violence when attending events or experiencing their city.

Emergency personnel and police arrived at the scene just after 6 p.m. As the situation unfolded, Seattle Police advised the public to avoid the area. Meanwhile, the Seattle Fire Department confirmed that two individuals were pronounced dead despite life-saving efforts.

Among the injured were three victims, including a 2-year-old child, who were transported to a hospital and are now in stable condition. Another victim was hospitalized in serious condition. A fifth victim with minor injuries opted not to seek hospital care.

Mayor Wilson assured the public of the administration’s commitment to prioritizing the support of grieving families, the care for the injured, and providing accurate public information. Seattle Police Department is being approached for further details.

Eyewitness accounts detail frantic scenes as the shooting unfolded. Kayla Carris, 22, described people inside the Seattle Center Armory screaming and scrambling for cover. “Everyone was just throwing stuff and running,” she recounted.

Todd Behrends, 59, shared his experience of hearing multiple shots, which led to a chaotic escape where panic-stricken individuals tried to flee the area, some even falling and getting trampled.

Following the shooting, Harborview Medical Center entered lockdown due to increased police activity. Additionally, the Seattle Center Monorail was closed for the remainder of the day.
