Trump Administration Suspends Green Card Applications for Major Tech Firms

59 minutes ago 0

The Trump administration has taken decisive action against several prominent tech companies, including Microsoft and Adobe, by halting their ability to apply for green cards for H-1B visa holders. This decision, announced Thursday, aims to ensure that American jobs remain protected from foreign competition.

Led by Vice President JD Vance, the announcement declared that companies perceived as exploiting the green card process to hire foreign workers on lower wages would face suspension from the PERM program. Microsoft was singled out as an example of such practices, having laid off thousands while continuing to apply for H-1B visas and green cards.

“Our message to Microsoft and other corporations is straightforward: We welcome your growth and investment in the American technology sector. However, we insist that you employ American workers,” Vance stated.

While Microsoft’s actions were highlighted, other key tech players faced similar suspension. IT outsourcing companies, including Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, HCO, and Capgemini, were affected, according to U.S. Secretary of Labor Kieth Sonderling. Adobe and Microsoft’s suspensions are tied to ongoing federal investigations.

Sonderling confirmed that existing green card applications from these companies will be halted and new applications will not be accepted. Newsweek has reached out to the affected firms for comment.

This is an evolving story, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
