Trump Administration’s New Whistleblower Program Targets Fraud

4 days ago 0

The Trump administration has launched a new fraud whistleblower program that has already gathered thousands of tips within days, according to Colin McDonald, Assistant Attorney General for the National Fraud Enforcement Division. Speaking on “My View with Lara Trump,” McDonald shared that the Justice Department is intensifying efforts to combat fraud.

“In recent days, we’ve received an overwhelming number of tips via our new tip line. This represents a fresh approach to tackling fraudsters,” McDonald stated. He noted that while fraudsters continually adapt their tactics, the federal government had been employing outdated methods until now.

In an interview, President Donald Trump announced the Fraud Whistleblower Incentive Program, allowing qualifying individuals to earn a 1% commission. This initiative is subject to applicable laws and provides upfront payments upon arrests, a noteworthy departure from traditional whistleblower programs that delay payment until the case concludes.

The program’s structure ensures that rewards are only given if tips result in a successful conviction or significant federal action. This aligns with the administration’s broader crackdown on fraud associated with federal benefits, highlighted by a recent 50-day enforcement operation targeting the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). This operation reportedly discovered roughly $40 million in alleged fraud across more than 40 suspects.

McDonald emphasized the difficulty of recovering taxpayer money once spent, though the Justice Department is assembling a specialized asset recovery team to trace fraud proceeds and seize property purchased with illicit funds.

“We’re introducing new tools to combat fraud, ensuring that we can match the adaptability of fraudsters,” McDonald said confidently.
