Trump wrote, “FIFA would be making a terrible mistake if, for any reason, they even considered replacing President Gianni Infantino.” He praised Infantino as a fantastic leader, especially after overseeing what he claims was the most successful World Cup, suggesting that any future events without Infantino would not reach similar success or profitability.
Trump’s confidence aligns with the financial success of the 2026 World Cup held across America, which broke attendance and revenue records. This success is part of his defense for Infantino as internal FIFA politics intensify.
Infantino’s troubles began after proposing FIFA Forward Enterprise, a scheme to sell a 20% stake in World Cup commercial rights to private investors for $4.2 billion.
