U.S. Government Response to Venezuelan Earthquakes

Secretary Rubio announced in Manama, Bahrain, the comprehensive efforts being made by the United States to assist Venezuela after back-to-back earthquakes. The focus is on deploying search and rescue teams, medical resources, and other humanitarian assistance rapidly.

Commitment to Support

Secretary Rubio emphasized President Donald Trump’s dedication to aiding Venezuela. This commitment extends to collaborating with international partners on both immediate recovery operations and long-term stability for the country.

Military and Humanitarian Assistance

U.S. military actions continued on Friday, with the final delivery of 10 U.S. Marine Corps Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacements (MTVRs) to aid earthquake victims. A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster cargo aircraft transported these vehicles, supporting logistics efforts to provide necessary aid to communities in need.

The MTVRs, previously used in Iraq and Afghanistan, are also being employed in humanitarian missions. Rescuers, including U.S. Marine, Navy, and Army crews, are actively involved in delivering aid such as pre-packaged meals to survivors.

Efforts at Simón Bolívar International Airport

The U.S. military’s Humanitarian Assistance Coordination Center (HACC) is coordinating relief efforts with local authorities and the State Department. They are based at Simón Bolívar International Airport, assisting in disaster relief.

Devastating Impact

The situation in Venezuela is dire. Reports include stories such as Argentine soccer player Lucas Trejo losing family members due to a building collapse caused by the earthquakes.

Further Relief Operations

The USS Fort Lauderdale is stationed at the Port of La Guaira, aiding in communications and serving as a distribution hub for relief supplies.

The relief efforts are part of the Trump administration’s initiative, which deployed $150 million in aid following the devastating 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude quakes. Additionally, a Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) comprising over 250 personnel, including Urban Search-and-Rescue (USAR) teams, has been mobilized.

The death toll from these earthquakes has reached nearly 2,000 and continues to rise, highlighting the urgency and importance of the ongoing support and relief efforts.
