Vice President JD Vance expressed his preference for the candid discussions he had with Pope Francis during his visit to the Vatican in April 2025. He contrasted the experience with what he termed ‘trite platitudes’ from the Vatican diplomats he met during his visit. Vance highlighted the straightforwardness of Pope Francis’s rebukes as a welcome change.
The meeting took place shortly before Pope Francis’s passing. Vance shared these reflections during an address on June 15, 2026, at 2:29 p.m. EDT. His comments provided insight into the dynamics of his visit and his appreciation for more honest dialogue.
