The Washington Commanders encountered a significant setback during their practice session on Saturday. Laremy Tunsil, a seasoned offensive tackle with five Pro Bowl appearances who started 14 games in 2025, sustained a torn triceps while participating in a one-on-one pass-rush drill. This information was reported by Mike Garafolo of NFL Media. As a result, Tunsil will need surgery and may miss much, if not all, of the regular season.
Initially, Garafolo mentioned that there was no significant panic within the team. However, the severity of the injury became more apparent just hours after Tunsil left the field, warranting more concern than initially expressed.
The Commanders now face the challenge of ensuring adequate protection for their quarterback, Jayden Daniels. Daniels had a difficult previous season, missing several games due to knee, hamstring, and elbow injuries. The team will likely rely on Andrew Wylie to fill the left tackle position. Josh Conerly will handle right tackle duties, alongside right guard Sam Cosmi, center Nick Allegretti, and left guard Chris Paul.
In March, Tunsil had signed a two-year contract extension worth $60.2 million, underscoring his importance to the team.
