Video footage reveals Los Angeles Police shooting a dog dressed in a New York Knicks jersey. This occurred as officers responded to reports of a woman screaming. The noise was actually a celebration of the Knicks winning the NBA championship.

After the Knicks secured the NBA Finals on Saturday, Los Angeles officers inadvertently killed the dog while attending to an unrelated situation. The LAPD addressed this in a news release on Tuesday.

Officers were responding to a radio call concerning a ‘screaming woman’ in the Canoga Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. A report led them to an apartment where a woman, accompanying a large barking dog, answered the door, according to LAPD information.

‘The officers asked her to secure the dog, and the resident temporarily closed her door. Upon reopening it, the dog exited the apartment,’ the release explains. ‘Once outside, the dog charged at an officer, leading to an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS).’

The Los Angeles Department of Animal Services arrived after being notified and took possession of the deceased dog. According to the LAPD, the dog’s owner cooperated with the investigation.

The dog’s name was Jameson, as confirmed by the owner’s girlfriend. A video viewed over 15 million times on TikTok shows a woman grieving over the lifeless dog wearing a Knicks t-shirt. She cries out in distress, saying, ‘The Knicks just won the championship. We were just so happy. We were celebrating the Knicks.’

In the video, about six officers stand by as the distressed woman protests. She expresses disbelief, saying, ‘This is absolutely crazy. We didn’t do anything.’

Voices off-camera criticize the officers, accusing them of misplacing priorities. A voice yells, ‘This is pathetic when there are drug dealers and people stabbing each other outside.’

The LAPD later clarified to NBC Los Angeles that the woman’s shouts were due to her excitement over the Knicks’ victory. The Knicks triumphed over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, bringing New York its first NBA championship in 53 years.
