RJ Mitte, widely recognized for his role as Walter “Flynn” White Jr. on the acclaimed series “Breaking Bad,” has passed away, as confirmed by his representative to CBS News. He was 34 years old. Details regarding the cause of his death have not been released.

Mitte gained fame for portraying the son of Bryan Cranston’s character, Walter White, and Anna Gunn’s Skyler White on AMC’s “Breaking Bad,” a series often praised as one of the greatest in television history. Mitte, and consequently his character Walter Jr., lived with cerebral palsy.

“Drawing from his own experience living with cerebral palsy, Mitte brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion,” stated Sean Riley, Mitte’s representative.

As part of the “Breaking Bad” ensemble, Mitte received a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Drama Ensemble in 2014, recognizing the show’s final season. Beyond acting, Mitte actively advocated for disability awareness, aiming to expand roles for people with disabilities in the entertainment industry. In 2014, he was honored with the SAG-AFTRA Howard Russell Award, named after the first actor with a disability to earn an Oscar.

Mitte also dedicated himself to philanthropic efforts. He served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s and led The Mitte Foundation, supporting various community initiatives. His work focused on challenging stereotypes and promoting a greater representation of people with disabilities.

Last year, Mitte collaborated with Can Do Canines, an organization providing service dogs in Wisconsin and Minnesota. He expressed gratitude for achieving mobility despite his disability, while recognizing that not everyone has similar opportunities. “I’m very fortunate with my disability that I have worked very hard to have the mobility I have today,” Mitte noted at that time.

The story is still developing and will be updated as more information becomes available.
