Singer Barry Manilow canceled his scheduled performance in Kentucky just 45 minutes before the show. The announcement, shared on social media platform X, cited unforeseen circumstances. Despite some backlash labeling the cancellation as disrespectful, fans expressed their support and well-wishes for the star.
Comments from fans included heartfelt messages emphasizing self-care and offering sympathy and healing energy. Manilow, who is 82, has been transparent about his health challenges. Last year, he shared news of an early-stage lung cancer diagnosis after doctors found a cancerous spot on his left lung following a prolonged bout of bronchitis.
“I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis,” Manilow posted on Instagram. “My doctor ordered an MRI for reassurance, which led to discovering the cancerous spot.”
As a result, Manilow informed his fans that he would undergo surgery to remove the spot without needing chemotherapy or radiation. In February, he announced further postponements of shows, following advice from his surgeon regarding his recovery.
Manilow detailed discussions with his doctor, who advised against performing long shows due to the current state of his lungs. While acknowledging his body was not ready, Manilow expressed determination, promising fans he would return to performing when fully recovered.
This May, Manilow canceled more shows but shared progress updates. He stated his medical check-up shows great progress, although he would miss Las Vegas residency dates at Westgate Resort until he is fit enough to perform in June shows in the UK.
Manilow’s commitment to returning to the stage is evident, as demonstrated by his proactive approach in ensuring health recovery. Fans nationwide and worldwide eagerly anticipate his comeback.
