Independent journalist Brandi Kruse discussed her removal from a National Women’s Soccer League match in Portland, Oregon. On Laura Ingraham’s show, Kruse explained being escorted out for wearing a T-shirt supporting female athletes.
The incident took place at a Portland Thorns game at Providence Park. Around 20 women wearing XX-XY shirts faced verbal and physical aggression from other fans. The group defended women’s sports by displaying a banner and wearing these shirts.
There’s nothing that the kind and tolerant left loves more than being unkind and intolerant towards people who have a different political perspective.
Kruse recounted receiving no explanation from security for the ejection. She stated, “None. It’s been three days…you hear me in the video demand that security tell me, when they say ‘you need to leave,’ and I say, ‘we didn’t do anything wrong.’ And she says, ‘you know what you did?’ And I said, ‘I have no idea what I did.’”
She decided to resist quietly leaving, saying security would have to physically remove her. Despite this, no explanation followed. Kruse and her group were removed while those attacking them remained.
Ingraham noted the Thorns’ statement emphasizing their commitment to a safe, inclusive environment. They claimed local management handled security actions and would review procedures for consistency.
Kruse highlighted the confusion of fault due to the complex management of Providence Park. She added that the assault extended beyond those wearing XX-XY shirts. OutKick’s Matt Calkins also faced aggression, with his press pass torn by security.
Security’s actions were scrutinized, acting beyond their authority as Kruse pointed out, describing their conduct as inappropriate. She criticized the intolerant reactions from the crowd.
Kruse concluded by stressing the importance of accepting differing ideas without resorting to violence. The incident illustrates the challenges faced in environments increasingly resistant to dissent.
The Department of Justice’s involvement brings further attention to such incidents, advocating for impartial handling of disputes in public venues.
