Misiorowski’s Tough Night

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski faced challenges at Wrigley Field on Wednesday. The Chicago Cubs pushed the 24-year-old to 92 pitches over four innings. Misiorowski, who had not allowed more than three earned runs in a start this season, gave up a season-high five earned runs on five hits and four walks. Despite this, the Brewers secured a 9-5 victory over the Cubs.

Offensive Efforts by the Cubs

The Cubs managed significant offensive production against Misiorowski. Manager Craig Counsell noted, “It was a pass the line night against Misiorowski, and I thought that it was a pretty good job.” The Brewers’ bullpen, however, stabilized the game, overshadowing the Cubs’ efforts at bat.

Struggles for Cubs’ Pitcher David Peterson

Cubs starter David Peterson had difficulties containing Milwaukee’s offense. He allowed six runs and seven hits in just under four innings, along with four walks and four strikeouts. Peterson acknowledged his struggles, stating, “I wasn’t getting ahead of hitters the way I needed to.” Milwaukee capitalized on his vulnerabilities to pull ahead.

Key Moments in the Game

Alex Bregman played a crucial role for the Cubs. He hit a two-run home run in the first inning and a two-run single in the second. Despite these efforts, the Cubs could not maintain momentum. Nico Hoerner shined defensively, making a critical diving catch in the fifth inning, which maintained the game’s narrow margin.

Challenges Continue for Cubs

The Cubs fell to a 78-62 record and faced further problems as Milwaukee stretched their division lead. The Cubs bullpen, although improved, had relievers who were not at their sharpest. Daniel Palencia, recently returned from the injured list, allowed one run on two hits. Closer Jacob Webb suffered a contusion from a 102.5 mph liner to his forearm, though X-rays showed no fracture.
