Berwyn Annual Pride Walk
The annual Berwyn Pride Walk will occur on June 27 from noon to 2 p.m. in the Depot District. The event begins at James Boyce Irish Pub and continues towards East Avenue. Supported by Bungalo+, Berwyn Development Corporation, the City of Berwyn, including local aldermen and businesses, this walk celebrates inclusivity and LGBTQ+ pride.
Participants are encouraged to dress festively for this family-friendly event, which includes local leaders, organizations, and residents. Mayor Robert Lovero stated, “The Pride Walk is a celebration of connection between neighbors, businesses, and cultures.”
Local Students Named National Merit Scholars
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has announced its 71st annual winners of $2,500 scholarships. Local students include Joshi Rishikesh (chemistry), Alexander Sjullie (applied mathematics), Yazmin Crisostomo (medicine), and Kathleen Krasnewich (engineering), among others. These students were selected from initial PSAT/NMSQT screenings and share almost $24 million in scholarships after rigorous evaluation.
Oak Brook Resident Joins U.S. Air Force
Skylar Parker from Oak Brook has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force at Clemson University. Along with 40 other ROTC members, Parker participated in a Silver Dollar Salute at the university’s Military Heritage Plaza.
Teen Scholarships from Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation
Teen Volunteer Health Profession Scholarships were awarded to Elmhurst teens, including Erin Horn, Sophyia Sendelbach, Teah Navarro, and Ariya Shah. These scholarships require volunteering at Endeavor Health Elmhurst Hospital and pursuing health-related careers. Funds come from the Reindeer Route Housewalk and community donations.
Darien Hosts Summer Concert Series
Darien’s summer concert series begins June 25 with Fuze performing at Darien Community Park. Concerts will also feature Dick Diamond & The Dusters on July 30 and Heart to Heartbreaker on August 27. Attendees are encouraged to bring canned goods for Our Lady of Mount Carmel Food Pantry.
Elmwood Park Library Trivia Night
Trivia enthusiasts can join a trivia night at Elmwood Park Public Library on June 30. Participants can form teams of up to six or meet new friends. Prizes will be awarded to winners.
Author Events at Oak Park Bookstore
The Book Loft in Oak Park will host author Meg Waite Clayton on June 25 and David Ellis on June 30 for book talks and signings. Copies of their books will be available for purchase and signing.
