Indiana Fever Triumph Over Chicago Sky

CHICAGO (AP) — Caitlin Clark scored an impressive 37 points, while Kelsey Mitchell added 30, as the Indiana Fever secured a convincing 113-90 win against the Chicago Sky on Sunday night.

Clark set a personal best by scoring eight of Indiana’s franchise-record 18 3-pointers and contributed 10 assists. The Fever wrapped up a challenging three-game stretch with their third match in four nights. Previously, they had experienced a brief losing streak.

Natasha Cloud provided an essential performance for Chicago, accumulating 16 points and seven assists. Despite winning three consecutive games prior, Azura Stevens managed 14 points and eight rebounds for the Sky.

The loss effectively ended Chicago’s playoff aspirations as Washington secured their own victory on Sunday night.

Indiana faced the challenge of playing without center Aliyah Boston, who was benched due to a right leg injury. Boston had previously scored 22 points and achieved six assists in Saturday’s game against New York, which concluded in a 109-102 loss.

The Fever began to pull ahead with a decisive 13-2 run in the third quarter, creating a 71-60 advantage. Clark initiated the run with a three-pointer, while Mitchell contributed eight successive points. Clark concluded the drive with a jump shot, leaving 4:31 remaining. Lexie Hull’s reverse layup made the score 97-82 with 4:37 left, where she contributed 14 points, and Makayla Timpson ended with 12.

This matchup marked the first meeting between these teams since the Indiana guard Sophie Cunningham was forcefully fouled by DiJonai Carrington in the initial quarter of Indiana’s 90-86 win on August 8. Cunningham played more than 11 minutes, scoring three points. Carrington tallied seven points in 18 minutes for the Sky.

Former NBA center Enes Kanter Freedom attended the game but was forced to depart in the third quarter after a confrontation with Cloud. Both Freedom and fellow former NBA player Royce White have declared themselves eligible for the WNBA draft, stating they identify as women.
