New York Knicks Trio Makes History with Unique Championship Feat

1 week ago 0

New York Knicks players Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Mikal Bridges set an unprecedented record by becoming the first trio of teammates to win both a college national title and an NBA championship together. The Knicks secured their first championship since 1973 by defeating the San Antonio Spurs in the 2026 NBA Finals.

Brunson, who earned the NBA Finals MVP title, shares more than basketball with Hart. They co-host the Roommates Show podcast, where their humorous exchanges are a staple. However, their achievements in basketball are no laughing matter.

The trio appeared on the TODAY show with Jenna Bush Hager, where they discussed the significance of their NBA title win. Brunson humorously remarked, “It’s a lot more special knowing me and Mikal have one more [championship] than Josh.” Yet he continued in a serious tone, expressing the special bond they share, stating, “When we were younger, we all had a goal of making it to the NBA… It’s awesome knowing… we all have love for each other.”

“I really love you guys, and it really means the most to me to know you guys are here doing this with me,” Hart texted to his teammates, highlighting their deep connection.

Their journey began at Villanova University. They clinched the 2016 NCAA national championship together. Hart entered the NBA in 2017, drafted 30th overall, while Brunson and Bridges were central to Villanova’s 2018 NCAA championship win. Bridges was the 10th overall pick in 2018, drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers, and Brunson went in the second round to the Dallas Mavericks.

In July 2022, Brunson joined the Knicks. Hart followed in February 2023 via a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers. Bridges became a part of the Knicks in 2024 after being traded from the Brooklyn Nets for five first-round draft picks. Together, their path to this championship season has solidified their place in basketball history.
