President Donald Trump is pressing Muslim-majority countries to join the Abraham Accords to engage in a new Iran agreement. These accords aim to normalize diplomatic relations between Israel and several Arab and Muslim-majority countries.
Call for Normalization
On Saturday, Trump said he encouraged Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan, Turkey, and Jordan to normalize relations with Israel. This follows a phone call with regional leaders regarding the accords.
“I stated that after all the work done by the United States to try and pull this very complex puzzle together, it should be mandatory that all of these countries, at a minimum, simultaneously, sign onto the Abraham Accords,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Involvement of More Nations
Trump mentioned plans to discuss the accords with leaders of the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. The UAE and Bahrain were the first to sign the accords in 2020. Trump also suggested that Iran might eventually join the Abraham Accords.
Potential Iranian Involvement
Trump expressed that several leaders he spoke with would welcome Iran’s inclusion in the accords. This prospect follows diplomatic discussions where Iran’s potential participation was highlighted.
U.S. and Israeli officials anticipate that the UAE may delay further actions until after Israel’s upcoming elections in September.
