Red Sox Remove Interim Tag, Appoint Chad Tracy as Manager

Chad Tracy will continue his tenure with the Boston Red Sox. On Tuesday, the team announced it has lifted the interim tag, appointing Tracy as the 49th manager in franchise history. Tracy, who stepped in after Alex Cora was dismissed on April 25, transformed a struggling team. The Red Sox were 10-17 when he took over and have since achieved a 74-55 record under his leadership.

The Red Sox have secured Tracy with a three-year contract, lasting through 2029, with a club option for 2030. Additionally, team options for Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow have been exercised for the same period.

“Craig and Chad are two exceptionally talented leaders who have earned these opportunities in very different ways,” stated Red Sox President & CEO Sam Kennedy. “Over the last three years, we’ve seen Craig bring clarity and discipline to our baseball operation. Chad managed a challenging situation with little notice, gaining trust swiftly across the major league levels.”

Under Tracy’s management, the Red Sox have achieved the second-best record in the American League and fifth-best overall in MLB. Remarkably, the team went 27-3 from July 3 to August 7, marking the best 30-game stretch in franchise history.

The Red Sox have clinched a spot in the postseason, likely facing the New York Yankees in a Wild Card Series. This offers an opportunity for Tracy’s team to avenge last season’s wild card round elimination.

Tracy spent eight seasons playing in minor leagues with organizations like the Texas Rangers, Colorado Rockies, and Kansas City Royals from 2006 to 2013. He began his coaching career in 2015 with the Los Angeles Angels, holding the position of minor league coordinator from 2018 to 2021. In 2022, he joined the Red Sox as manager of Triple-A Worcester, leading to his current role.
