Rep. Thomas Massie, who lost the Republican primary in Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District to Trump-backed challenger Ed Gallrein, is considering running for office again. Massie has filed with the FEC for the 2028 House race, enabling him to raise funds for future political activities. He mentioned, “I haven’t made a final decision about which office to seek, if I run.”
Massie has expressed disappointment with the outcome of the primary, clarifying that he does not suspect fraud in the election process such as fraudulent votes or mistabulated results. Despite his loss, he is open to pursuing new opportunities, notably citing, “I won’t be going away silently.”
During a previous event at the University of Louisville College Republicans, Massie expressed his frustration with government operations by stating, “If I lose on May 19, I am not doing any more government ever.” Yet, his recent activities suggest he might still be involved politically.
Massie’s opponent, Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL, won the primary decisively. The defeat marked the end of Massie’s tenure, where he had served in Congress since late 2012. On “Meet the Press,” Massie did not rule out a 2028 presidential bid. He emphasized continued engagement in political discourse, highlighting his past efforts of exposing happenings in Washington D.C.
Massie has indicated plans to remain active in some capacity, possibly influencing political discussions and decisions from outside formal government roles.
