Stephen A. Smith is standing firm against President Donald Trump. Recently, OutKick questioned Smith over his criticism of the president. Trump retaliated, labeling Smith as a ‘low IQ individual’ and ‘dumb as a rock.’
In response, Smith took to primetime TV. He appeared on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show to set the record straight. During the show, Smith made it clear he would not apologize. Instead, he reaffirmed his stance.
‘I take no offense with the president coming after me the way that he did,’ Smith told Hannity. ‘People go after him every day. I certainly went after him. He has every right to come back and clap back at me. I’m a big boy. I can take it. He ain’t phasing me one bit.’
If Smith truly seeks political office, such as the presidency, he must withstand criticism.
The conflict intensified over the logistics of a presidential visit. Smith criticized the disruptions caused by street closures around Madison Square Garden, impacting outdoor watch parties during a Knicks game. Trump’s presence, Smith argued, seemed self-centered.
The Knicks have not won a championship in over fifty years. Smith felt Trump’s visit disturbed the momentum building around the team. ‘But this man was raised in Queens, New York, lifelong Knicks fan, knows about the suffering that spans 53 years,’ Smith remarked. ‘And when you’re a true sports fan, you know every little thing could disrupt the momentum.’
The city canceled Knicks watch parties due to the visit, affecting fans who gathered across New York. While Smith blamed Trump for the Knicks’ Game 3 loss, misshaped by courtside excitement, player performance likely influenced results as well.
