The recent shooting in Midland, Texas, has resulted in at least one fatality and injuries to 11 others, as confirmed by Midland Mayor Lori Blong. The incident evolved into a standoff lasting over two hours, according to police reports.

The shooting began around 8 a.m. in one location before moving near a veterinary hospital. Witness Andrea Mendias, employed at a nearby auto body shop, reported hearing approximately 40 gunshots. Her video footage captured officers exiting an armored police vehicle strategically, while robots were deployed for area surveillance.

Mayor Blong stated that the situation was ongoing, with containment efforts by officers. She expressed condolences, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and our officers.”

The Midland Police Department issued a statement on social media, detailing their response to the active shooter incident on West Wall Street’s 4600 block. The department coordinated with other agencies to secure the area swiftly. Officers deployed armored units, aiming to end the standoff safely.

Midland, located in the core of Texas’s oil region, is home to about 140,000 people. The city experienced a previous tragic shooting six years ago, where a former oil service employee killed seven and injured multiple others across Odessa and Midland.
