Putin’s Warnings and Counterattacks

Russian President Vladimir Putin has responded to Ukraine’s long-range attacks on Russian sites. He accused Ukraine of aiming to harm Russia’s economy. “It was the one to open this Pandora’s box,” said Putin, indicating retaliatory strikes on Ukraine’s economic sectors.

Recent Strikes and Casualties

A day before Putin’s remarks, Ukrainian officials reported a deadly Russian strike in Kryvyi Rih. The attack on a shopping mall resulted in 16 deaths and 140 injuries. The “double-tap” tactic targeted emergency responders, compounding the tragedy.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack as “despicable,” with the state emergency service describing it as a “deep wound.”

Ukraine’s Drone Assaults

Ukraine has increased its drone strikes on Russian sites, including oil refineries and warehouses. These actions aim to impact Russia’s economy, already burdened by high defense spending.

Drone activities over Kremlin and Moscow have embarrassed Putin. Recent polls show the war is increasingly unpopular among Russians.

Russia’s Missile Offensive

In response, Russia has intensified missile attacks on Ukraine, targeting energy and defense sectors. Moscow claims its strikes are more impactful than Ukraine’s assaults.

Odesa Under Attack

Russia’s defense ministry reported drone strikes on Yuzhny port in Odesa, damaging cargo equipment and fuel storage. Odesa’s governor called the attack “massive,” resulting in injuries to three individuals. A Russian drone also hit a passenger train in transit to Odesa, prompting an evacuation without injuries.

Ongoing Drone Warfare

Ukraine intercepted most of the 127 drones sent by Russia overnight, but 27 breached air defenses. Ukrainian military claimed attacks on Russian sites in Crimea, targeting repair facilities and a launch site for unmanned boats. A strike on Saky air base destroyed a Russian Su-24M jet.
