In Amman, Jordan, three men were arrested following a deadly attack on a Greek Orthodox church. This violent incident resulted in nine fatalities and over two dozen injuries. The Public Security Directorate confirmed the arrests after a confrontation with the suspects, all of whom were injured in the shootout.

The operation took place in the Karak governorate, south of Amman, where a significant Christian minority resides. The attack at the church in Hammoud occurred during a funeral service. Despite the severity, no security personnel were harmed during the operation.

A funeral on October 25, 2026, was attended by around 3,000 individuals mourning the victims of the attack that happened at the Greek Orthodox church days earlier. Reports indicate that three men were involved in the attack.

The suspects were apprehended after putting up fierce resistance, according to Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya in a conversation with Al-Mamlaka, the state TV. The minister commended the security services for fulfilling their duties in capturing those responsible for the terrorist act.

The attack left visible evidence in Saint George’s Greek Orthodox Church, with bloodstains marking the site where gunmen opened fire during the funeral.

The Public Security Directorate affirmed a strong stance against terrorism, stating that the attackers faced “just fate.” However, they did not disclose the identities of the suspects or any possible affiliations with Islamist militant groups.

King Abdullah II has instructed authorities to act decisively against those attempting to disrupt the unity of Jordanian society.
