Tyler Adams Highlights Malik Tillman’s Key Role in 2026 World Cup

Two weeks ago, Tyler Adams, a midfielder for the United States men’s national team (USMNT), appeared on FS1’s “First Things First.” He highlighted Malik Tillman, another midfielder, as a significant yet underrated player in the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup.

“He creates so many chances for us,” Adams stated. “He’s such an important player. He’s a guy that plays at the highest level in Champions League and in the Bundesliga.” Tillman’s capabilities are now widely recognized by U.S. soccer fans.

In the upcoming Round-of-16 match against Belgium on Monday, July 6, Tillman faces increased pressure to create scoring opportunities. Folarin Balogun, a breakout star striker who scored in the 45th minute against Bosnia, received a controversial red card in the 64th minute. According to Tom Bogert, FIFA’s current rules prevent the U.S. from appealing this decision, rendering Balogun ineligible against Belgium.

This development is significant because Balogun is the USMNT’s top scorer in the tournament with three goals. On the positive side, four other players have successfully scored, including Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie, who have posed constant scoring threats.

A win against Belgium would solidify this squad’s legacy in U.S. soccer history. It would be the first quarterfinals appearance for the USMNT since the 2002 World Cup. The team’s only finish above the quarterfinals was during the inaugural 1930 World Cup.
